Bringing Europe Home

Gimme a Little Kiss, Will Ya, Huh?

But make mine a bacio.

WHAT IT IS

Baci are candy kisses made by the Italian candy company, Perugina.  Bacio, as you may have guessed, is the Italian word for kiss, and baci is the plural form. The confections are made of a hazelnut and chocolate cream center topped by a whole roasted hazelnut, encased in delicious dark chocolate.  True to form, the Italians complete their kisses with a with a little love note, which is written in Italian and translated in four other languages.  They seal the deal with an elegant silver foil wrapper decorated with blue stars.

BRING IT HOME

You might be lucky enough to have an establishment near you that sells Baci.  Happily for me, there is an Italian market nearby (The East 48th Street Market) that keeps me supplied.  If you can’t find the candies in your area, ColavitaUSA will come to your rescue.  They have an online store for Italian specialty foods, including Perugina chocolates. Go to www.colavita.com/store then click on SALE Chocolate & Sweets.  They have better prices on the Baci boxes and gift packages than I have seen elsewhere online, and they guarantee delivery by Valentine’s Day if you order by February 7th.  So give your sweetheart some Baci this year, and see if you get a little kiss in return.

Oh I love these chocolates, haven’t had one in a while, brings back memories of a child.

    • These chocolates fall into the “what’s not to like?” category. Nosh on them again, Foodlibations, and indulge those childhood memories!

Dark chocolate and hazelnut, yummy! I noticed it when we went to Italy. Goodness! Don’t think that it’s possible to sample every morsel of food in that country; I managed to miss that one. Since then, I’ve seen it at my specialty grocer. Can’t wait to try it. Of course, I’ll give it to my kids for Valentine’s Day and hope for some in return!

    • Hope you got your Valentine’s Day kisses, Gina!
